Beating your own Ironman

A few of my Amanda Lucas Health & Fitness gang have just conquered their own Ironman mountain.

Everyone has a hill to climb (and it’s not necessarily fitness related). Your own Ironman mountain could be anything from sitting for a massive job interview, signing up for adult learn-to-swim classes, going on a blind date or hitting the pavement for your first post-baby jog.

On Saturday, for some of my team, it was lining up in the Twilight Bay Run with thousands of other mums, dads, kids, teens and prams.

And don’t they look fab!

My fun run rookies, carrying a few pre-event butterflies, positioned themselves in prime starting positions.

The plan was simple – to finish with a smile.

My troops were snapped (below) in serious pep-talk mode just minutes before kick-off!

Although I have a sneaky suspicion they were planning post-event drinks (of the alcoholic variety).

The hooter went off, my girls scooted away and I went nuts snapping pics for you to see what a brilliant afternoon it was.

Less than an hour later, all three knocked off a challenge which at one stage or another in their lives would’ve seemed ridiculously impossible.

Winners are grinners!
Winners are grinners!

They also scored a pretty cool singlet and finishers medal to add to the trophy cabinet!

But better than ANY of the material stuff (including free bananas and muffins!) was the sense of achievement and ‘feel-good’ factor gained from taking a leap into the unknown.

I know, I sound like some hocus-pocus health freak but if you could’ve heard them laughing and chatting (back to those celebratory drinks) on the way home then you’d hopefully understand the value of climbing your own Ironman.

Happy sharing!

  1. Thanks Coach. You’re right – we were pretty damned chuffed with ourselves. Thanks for giving us the self-belief. And…..we did enjoy the drinkies that night 🙂
